About the Client
Waterbear is a platform for environmental themed videos and content bringing their audience to concrete actions.
The intention is to make Waterbear a platform where people that care about the planet learn, engage, contribute content and mobilize others to save the planet.
Waterbear encourages its community to switch from mindless scrolling and engage with entertaining films that cover a wide range of topics in the environmental and humanitarian space.
They work alongside hundreds of partners commited to saving our planet, including both renowned brands and NGOs. Together, they produce original content that inspires people to take action by making it effortlessly easy. It’s about all of us, and the planet, together.
Discovery
The main idea behind the Discovery phase is that the Q project team gets familiar with all planned functionalities and enhancements. Q’s BA has produced a backlog document that has a list of the functionalities, where we focused on the ones planned for the next 3-4 months.
For the second half of the Dedicated team contracted period, a smaller team was scheduled (with one React JS and one Flutter developer), the scope will be aligned on and revised mutually along the way. Q’s designer has created the desktop and tablet screens for the mobile screens shared upfront, created by Move78.
Based on the information mentiond above, Q web and mobile developers have given time estimates needed to implement the required functionalities. They will use Flutter for Android and iOS for compatible mobile applications. ReactJS will be used for the website.
Design
The design – desktop screens – were done by Move78 agency. Q’s designer has created the screens for the mobile app. After that, our developers have used all of them to create the upgraded platform.
Development
In the development phase, the scope includes significant enhancements to the WaterBear platform designed to improve user experience. The updated Home Feed will deliver personalized content, such as articles, events, videos, and missions tailored to individual interests. A new Discover Page will allow users to explore content based on specific goals, whether to get informed or involved, through a variety of content types or topics.
The Get Informed Feed will feature curated films and articles to enhance knowledge, while the Get Involved Feed will highlight opportunities for community engagement. Users can expect diverse content types, ensuring they can access articles, videos, and missions in formats that best suit their preferences.
To foster community interaction, a new comment function will facilitate meaningful discussions among users. Additionally, user profiles will be updated to reflect individual interests, achievements, and progress, enabling better tracking of personal journeys.
Enhanced search functionality and filtering options will streamline content discovery, making it easier to locate relevant material. The platform will also introduce updated like and share options for easy saving and sharing of favourite content. These updates collectively aim to create a more engaging and user-friendly platform, encouraging exploration and participation in initiatives aligned with users’ values and interests.
End Result
The enhancements to the WaterBear platform have significantly improved user experience and engagement. Users now enjoy a personalized Home Feed that delivers tailored content, fostering deeper engagement with relevant articles, videos, and events.
The Discover Page encourages exploration beyond typical preferences, promoting awareness of important issues and participation in social and environmental causes. Enhanced community interaction through the new comment functionality has strengthened connections between users.
The updated profiles allow users to track their achievements, while improved search and filtering options streamline content discovery. Overall, these changes position WaterBear as a more dynamic, user-centric platform, driving greater engagement and alignment with users’ values.
