Discovery

The BPP Product and Technology (P&T) department operates with several integrated teams across different domains, some of which include members from both BPP and the Q team. These domains include:

  • Discover: Focuses on website and CMS revamping

  • Learn: Works on student progress tracking

  • Join: Streamlines the application process

  • SRE: Manages infrastructure and provides DevOps support across all teams

The collaboration between BPP and Q team members is seamless, with no strict differentiation between the two, ensuring a cohesive and effective approach to project delivery.

The Discover project aimed to completely revamp BPP University’s website and integrate a new content management system (CMS) with various downstream services. This transformation was designed to enhance user experience, increase conversion rates, and drive revenue growth.

The project involved moving elements of the existing site to a new, dynamic stack, while maintaining full functionality as the migration progressed. A key part of the Discover team’s focus was ensuring seamless integration with other services to deliver the right information dynamically, as well as modernising the e-commerce solution.

Development

The collaboration between BPP and Q team members is seamless, with no strict differentiation between the two, ensuring a cohesive and effective approach to project delivery.

While the Discover team’s focus was on revamping the website and e-commerce functionalities, other key domains such as Learn and Join were also involved in the broader development goals. The Learn domain is dedicated to tracking student progress and delivering relevant, personalised information about their educational journey, while the Join domain focuses on optimising the application process, ensuring that it is intuitive, decluttered, and easy to navigate. The SRE team supports all domains by managing infrastructure and providing DevOps services, ensuring that all systems run efficiently and reliably.

The collaborative efforts across these teams focused on modernising the architecture to ensure that various downstream services, such as student portals and application processes, are fully integrated and communicate efficiently. A significant challenge was managing the transition of different site components between old and new tech stacks, ensuring uninterrupted functionality throughout the migration. This agile, iterative approach enabled ongoing improvements across the digital landscape, ensuring a cohesive, user-centric experience while maintaining operational continuity.

End Result

The ongoing collaboration between BPP and Q teams has led to substantial enhancements in the digital ecosystem. The newly revamped website, supported by a modern CMS, now offers dynamic, personalised content, while the optimised e-commerce solution has streamlined user interactions and improved conversion rates. The modernisation of the underlying architecture ensures better integration of downstream services, including student portals and the application process, for seamless communication across systems.

Currently, the team consists of 10 engineers, with plans to double that number in the near future to support continued growth and innovation. Utilising technologies like NodeJS, React, and AWS, the development teams are focused on building a high-performance, scalable infrastructure. These ongoing efforts are not only improving the current digital experience for prospective students and internal users but also positioning BPP for future advancements in student progress tracking, application processing, and overall system performance.
