About the Client

Spurred on by the joy of business challenges, Medi thrives to set industry standards with their products and concepts. By thinking beyond borders and breaking new grounds Medi found a steady partner in Q with the know-how to develop Medi Vision together.

Medi’s innovative strength was honored for the first time in 2020 with the German Innovation The digital tool for practically contactless measuring was praised also by the panel of the Plus X Award in 2021 in the categories of innovation, high quality, user comfort and functionality.

Discovery

The idea behind developing the Medi Vision app was to relieve licensed partners and customers from a cumbersome on-site fitting process. Taking manual measurements, compiling records, and processing that data for Medi’s manufacturing needs had become outdated.

Medi was well aware of their users’ specific pain points. With a specialised camera connected to an iPad, the app captures and creates a 3D model of the relevant body part, complete with precise measurements. The Q team developed an application that extracts data from these 3D camera scans, using measurements provided by Lymphatechnology.

Design

It was essential to deliver a streamlined user flow that would enable the design team to create an intuitive system for the entire measurement process. The Q team conducted user research and analysis to understand the complex process and identify ways to simplify it.

The Q team then developed components to assemble the screens for the initial Medi Vision prototype. Among many enhancements, a larger keyboard was introduced for faster data entry and measurement recording, which proved highly effective.

With this implementation, manual data entry has become much more straightforward. Users no longer need to write measurements by hand and transfer them later; instead, they can enter everything directly on their iPads.

Development

The tech stack for Medi Vision included two full-time native developers who built a fully functional iOS application.

With this app, web stores and on-site shops can sync measurement data with their systems via API. The app collects and processes data that enables partners and customers to quickly identify the right Medi product.

One particular challenge was processing the data from 3D body measurement scans. The Q team had to structure this data meaningfully so that the shop system could accurately recognize and incorporate it into orders.

End Result

The Q team developed an application that extracts data from camera scans of 3D body part measurements created by Lymphatechnology. While the camera captures the raw data, the Medi Vision app is essential for processing and formatting it effectively.
